This CD book of selections collects three separate sessions recorded ~ means of Donald Byrd and Doug Watkins towards Transition with various small groups. The 1955 recordings (elementary issued under the title Byrd's Eye View) were made in a little time after Byrd replaced Kenny Dorham in the Jazz Messengers, the whole of of whom (Horace Silver, Art Blakey, and Hank Mobley, beside with Byrd and Watkins) are not absent, with the addition of local trumpeter Joe Gordon in the same manner with a guest on two tracks. The half-dozen songs mix an improvised the dismals ("Doug's Blues"), a favorite from the hang era ("Crazy Rhythm"), a ballad item for Byrd and Mobley ("Everything Happens to Me"), in addition a pair of potent hard bop pieces contributed ~ dint of. the tenor saxophonist.
